It look really tiny, but just click on it and you can see the whole thing in larger print.
Here is a link to the very easy website that I used to create this mind map. Thanks Lindsay!!

Technology can be so user friendly if you are patient with it and willing to learn. After putting all the finishing touches on my storybook I fell in love with how easy it was for me to create. As I said to Steve, we are a Mac family so I used iMovie, but man, it was a breeze. I think I would even use that over any other podcasting system the next time I make a podcast with images. You literally just drop the pictures in, choose the length and record for each picture or just keep talking. Maybe teaching wasn’t what I was supposed to do after all, maybe I was supposed to be a movie director…. Just kidding!! However, if using movie maker was as easy for you as iMovie was for me, can you imagine the excitement that you could create in your classroom allowing the students to present this way??
This is just a short post, but I thought it was worth sharing!

This was so fun to create and easy to use! I had a little problem with uploading it on my blog and ended up taking a screen shot of the image and saving it to my computer.

Tomorrow is Friday- that came out of no where! That means we are getting ready to start week 3, already! This past week has been interesting and I have definitely been learning about things I didn’t already know. I knew what podcasts were, but never thought I would be making one. I can really see how fun this could be for students to create podcasts as presentations, or how useful it could be in the classroom for teachers. A teacher could teach so many lessons at one time with podcasts. Stations are a popular concept in the primary grades and with the ability to make podcasts we now have the ability to be in more than one place at a time. There could be 5 stations with 5 different podcasts each with their own focus and main idea. So cool!
It’s also interesting to me to be able to read others opinions and thoughts on what we are learning. I feel that every single person will take something from this class that they can use in their classroom in the fall. Actually taking the steps and putting these ideas into place may be a whole new concept for some, but technology is everywhere my friends!
Do you ever wonder what it would be like to be a student in todays world? Ok, I know what some of you are thinking- I was. But I wasn’t. Technology is always evolving and they are always coming out with some new gadget, app, software, or whatever it may be. Yes, I did have the chance to use computers in school, but not like the kids today. I really wasn’t expected to type my papers or other pieces of work until late high school or even college. Why? well, not every family had a computer and access to computers was not as easy to get as it is today. When I was student teaching the student’s in the second grade class were expected to use the computer to type some of their work. Obviously not all because for now we still use pencil and paper sometimes and that is still a necessary skill. Interesting thought that it may be gone some day… Just take a look at these two pictures! Quite a difference!

I know we have all heard it before, we need to grab out student’s attention before starting a lesson. I am always trying to think of fun introductions to lessons or just fun ideas to use in the classroom. While I was student teaching I had the great pleasure to attend a workshop put on by the school where I was student teaching. The person who was teaching this workshop had a few fun attention getters and this one was definitely one that stuck out in my mind, so I thought I would share.
Living Sasquatch is the website and it is an interactive website that needs a printer and a webcam to be functional. The website offers the “footprint” needed to make sasquatch come to life and then you control his actions. You can be as involved or as uninvolved in the actual video itself. I chose to not be very involved and just made a little story to go along with his actions. I thought that you could talk, so I was talking to him, but the only noises you can hear are coming directly from the furry little guy himself. The website is very easy to use and offers a tutorial, links to the footprint, and directions. The one thing I could not figure out was how to make the footprint bigger- So if you figure it out, please comment and leave directions. I know it’s possible and it’s pretty cool to see a giant gorilla standing next to someone when they aren’t expecting it. I think if you were to put the footprint somewhere in the classroom and then turn the webcam on it would be interesting to see the student’s responses. DON’T FORGET….. You have to have a clear shot of the footprint in order for this to work. Have fun with it!!

In no way am I endorsing Kaplan College, but I saw this commercial with “Uncle Phil” James Avery the other night on TV and I thought it was interesting. This seems to be a lot of what we are trying to accomplish in our class. It’s only a minute or so. Check it out!
